The President's Corner by Dr. Ted Martinez
Dr. Ted MartinezSummer months have been busy at Grossmont College. Nearly 7,500 students took advantage of the opportunity to “Make Your Summer Count” by getting a head start on their college degrees, or completing some of their general education requirements. In addition, we had a full compliment of culinary arts and other career-focused students on campus, as well as 28 eager Summer Readiness Program EOPS students.

The by-now-familiar green construction fencing appeared around the site for the new Science Building, adjacent to the new Learning and Technology Resource Center. Initial site preparation during the summer, including clearing of vegetation, means that there will be less noise and dirt when students return in late August.

Our promotional campaign for the fall semester is now in full swing. Look for our print ads, direct mail pieces, and listen for our upbeat radio commercials on selected high-rated stations as well as drive-time traffic spots. Please help us spread the word that Grossmont College is first in transfer to San Diego State, and has just been named “Best of San Diego” again by readers of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

I invite everyone to join us for the official opening of our 44th academic year at the Fall Convocation, Monday August 16, 8 a.m. in the Student Center, and look forward to seeing you there.

Respectfully,

Ted Martinez, Jr.
