Members of the San Diego Museum of Art's Artists Guild and the Grossmont
College Hyde Art Gallery co-sponsored a summer exhibition that featured 53
outstanding pieces shown to more than 250 visitors during the opening
event at the gallery July 8th. It was the Guild’s second democratically
juried exhibition, and the first time a community art organization joined
with the Hyde Art Gallery to hold an exhibition. More than 380 pieces were entered in the mixed-media Artists
Guild competition, including photography, sculpture, traditional drawing
and painting as well as digital and fabric art.

“This was a wonderful opportunity to showcase artists from the greater
San Diego region in our Hyde Art Gallery, as an enhancement to our regular
exhibition season,” said Dr. Ted Martinez, Jr., college president. “Our
summer session students enjoyed the opportunity to visit the Hyde and to
experience the presentation of a prestigious juried exhibition of
mixed-media art. We appreciate the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild
and thank them for this opportunity for collaboration in the visual arts.”
Grossmont College Dean of Communication and Fine Arts Shannon O’Dunn
coordinated activities of the Artists Guild exhibition and the opening
event at the Hyde Art Gallery. Hyde Art Gallery Curator Ben Aubert curated
and hung the show. Aubert and several members of the college art
department participated in the jurying process. According to O’Dunn, “The
Division of Communication and Fine Arts is especially grateful to Guild
members Joann Sandlin, Jane Darin, Dennis Batt, Ed Moores and George Wahab
for their efforts in making this collaborative event a success.”
