We are moving forward filling faculty vacancies as
expeditiously as our resources will allow. It is my pleasure to help welcome
nine new replacement faculty who joined us for the beginning of the spring
semester. Their biographies are included in this issue of Campus Scene.
Please introduce yourselves and help make our new faculty feel at home!
As interim president, it is my honor to chair the Search Committee for the
next Grossmont College president. The committee will include two community
members, Jim Davis and Gary Clasen; ASGC representative Charles Brown; GC
Foundation representative Ernie Ewin; Academic Senate representatives Beth
Smith, Curtis Stevens, and Sue Jensen; United Faculty representative Zoe
Close; CSEA representative Dave McDade; Classified Senate representative
Bernadette Black; Administrators Association representative Peter White; and
GCCCD representatives Vice Chancellor Jim Austin and Cuyamaca College
President Geraldine Perri. There will be regular updates as the committee
establishes a timeline and pursues its process as we work together on this
There is great progress to report in the continuing quest for state
equalization funding for community colleges, thanks in large measure to the
leadership in this effort provided by our Chancellor and other
representatives of the GCCCD. The proposed budget of Governor Schwarzenegger
for 2006-07 includes the final equalization installment of $130 million, an
11 percent increase over 2005-2006 to base funding, and a 5.18 percent cost
of living increase. We will be seeking everyone's assistance in the coming
months as it will be necessary to let our legislators know that we support
the Governor's budget.
Please thank Tim Flood and the Facilities Committee members for their
tireless work in keeping us moving forward with the much anticipated and
needed physical improvements to our campus. In the recent past we celebrated
the grand opening of the new Life Safety Road and the resurfaced track. In
addition, countless upgrades and remodeling took place during winter break
that enhance the learning and working environment.
