Welcome Back! It is invigorating to see so many eager students – more than
17,300 – here as we begin our 44th academic year. It is interesting to note
that nearly 7,000 are students new to Grossmont. My special thanks to
counseling staff and others who work especially diligently to provide the
special attention necessary to help new students begin on the right foot.
I would also like to thank those who added their expertise and talents to
make our Fall Convocation Showcase such a success: Virginia Berger, Tim
Flood, Michael Perez and Derek Canon. Congratulations to Zoe Close, our
Distinguished Faculty for 2004-2005!
Mike Matherly and his team of dedicated volunteers made the President’s
Barbecue a lively introduction to the new semester.
Thanks to the hard work of the Planning and Budget Council, as well as
the Staffing Committee, we are positioned to take advantage of the
opportunity to hire six new faculty (possibly up to eleven) who will join us
for the Spring 2005 semester. We hope to add ten more in Fall, 2005.
You will soon receive electronic notice that the Educational Master Plan,
the Strategic Plan 2004-2010, and the Strategic Plan Report 2003-2004 have
been posted on the College website. Hard copies of the Educational Master
Plan are located in the LTRC, the Academic Senate office, the Deanery, the
President’s office, the GCCCD office, and with the Classified Senate Vice
President.
You are all encouraged to look around and appreciate the facility
improvements made during the summer months. A complete list is available on
the Facilities Update page on the Grossmont website. Be sure to thank Tim
Flood!
Respectfully,
Ted Martinez, Jr.
