How do we do it? What is the skinny about all this
student success at Grossmont College?
Who better to put the word out than the Grossmont English Dept., that in April hosted a series of seminars and workshops talking about Grossmont’s community outreach and student success programs.

The following week, “Learning Communities Symposium,” put together by Sue Jensen and Linda Mitchell of the

English Dept., brought attendees to Griffin Gate to hear Dr. Mary Donnelly, a pioneer in the learning community concept, tell about GC’s famous “Project Success.” Donnelly, now retired from the GC faculty, initiated the first links between classes in what was to become the Project Success program that has grown into a flourishing network of learning communities both at the developmental level and at the General Education and Honors levels.

Making presentations such as “Integrating Syllabi, Strategies and Assignments in Linked Courses,” were Jensen, Mitchell, Jenny Nolen, Tony Ding, Joan Ahrens, Marilyn Ivanovici, Chris Hill, Ryane Harris, Bert Dill, Gwenyth Mapes and Marty Ennis.

A Learning Community symposium featured a reading and writing round table to help regional colleges collaborate to help students succeed.
