Assessment
Visit one of the
health assessment websites indicated in the
Health
Links page of the course web
page. Evaluate the results addressing the areas in your health that
may be improved. Include in your evaluation some realistic health goal
to achieve in order to improve your health.
- Nutrition Analysis
Record your food intake for one week day and one weekend day.
Rate each day separately.
A. Go to the Center for Nutrition Policy Promotion
http://www.usda.gov/cnpp/ Once you are in the site. Go to the right
column in the page titled projects. Under projects, click on
Interactive Healthy Eating Index. You will need to register your
name to log in. Rate only one day food intake.
B. Print out the results of your food analysis and evaluate the
results.
C. Your evaluation should answer the following questions:
Answer the following questions:
How does your food intake compare to the USDA Food Guide Pyramid?
Are you meeting all your dietary needs such as calories, protein,
fiber, calcium, iron, folic acid etc?
Are you exceeding the recommended amounts of total fat, trans fats,
cholesterol, or sodium?
How was your food intake on the weekend different from the weekday?
How can your food intake be improved?
Turn in the following print outs: List of foods consumed, Food
display, Your Food Guide Pyramid, Healthy Eating Index, and a
hypothetical one day balanced diet.
- Know Your Numbers
You are required to get your blood pressure , cholesterol, percent
body fat and measurements. These tests can be done at the Student
Health Services or your own physician. Include an evaluation of the
results. Are your numbers within the normal range? If not, what can
you do to improve them? (30 points)
- Cardiovascular Fitness Assessment
Calculate your Target Heart Rate by following the directions in the
handout. Walk briskly or run/jog for a mile and a half. Take your
pulse as soon as you finish. Record the time it took you to complete
the distance. Evaluate your performance according to your text. Did
your heart rate fall in the target heart rate range? What can you
do to improve your cardiovascular fitness? (20 points)
