More Griffin Makes Late Verbal Commitment
(6/6) EL CAJON - One more Griffin kicker has made the
commitment to play at the university level. Goalkeeper
Brittany Ester (Toms River HS-New Jersey) has committed to
Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire. She will likely
earn the starting position for the Ravens who were the
Northeastern-10 Conference champions the past 7 seasons. For
Grossmont Ester finishes a stellar career where she was in
the state top ten of goalkeepers both seasons. In two years
she finished with a 0.4794 goals against average in 25 games
played. Ester was an All-Pacific Coast Conference selection
in 2006.
Ester joins teammates Adrianna Aguillon (SDSU), Eliana
Parada (Kansas Wesleyan), Lauren Lowrey (Kansas Wesleyan)
and Brittany Neill (BIOLA) who have all made commitments to
scholarship offers to play at the next level. |

Two more Griffins set to sign with universities
(3/7) Grossmont soccer is pleased to announce that two
more Griffins have given verbal commitments to continue
playing soccer at the university level. Sophomores Eliana
Parada (Helix) and Lauren Lowrey (Santana) have given verbal
commitments to play at Kansas Wesleyan University on soccer
scholarships in the fall.
Parada was second on the team in assists (10), points
(39) and goals (15). She was a 2006 All Pacific Coast
Conference selection.
Lowrey helped anchor a defense that allowed only 15 goals
in 23 games. She was responsible for winning balls and
creating chances pushing forward as an attacker and also was
a 2006 All Pacific Coast Conference selection. In 2006 KWU
were champions of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference
and also were NAIA region IV finalists. Coach Mike Dibbini
feels that with the addition of Parada and Lowrey that they
will be able to challenge for the final four in 2007.
The Griffins signing day and press conference for these
girls and Adriana Aguillon and Brittany Neill, who have also
committed to universities, will be Friday March, 16th at
Grossmont. |

One Griffin Signed, One Gives Verbal Commitment to
Scholarship Offers
Neill, Aguillon set to move on
(12/15) Coming off the success of two tremendous soccer
seasons at Grossmont, two of the Griffin soccer players,
Brittany Neill and
Adriana Aguillon, have
already given their verbal commitment to four-year schools.
Neill has signed her letter of intent and will be joining
her sister (Bryna Neill) at BIOLA next year where she will
likely add punch to their offense. Last year the Eagles were
7-6-3. Neill finished her Grossmont career with 19 goals
(#12), 18 assist (#10) for 56 points (#9 on the all time
Grossmont points list).
"Brittany scored many clutch goals for us in her two years."
says coach Howard Hawver. Neill was an all-PCC selection in
2005.
Aguillon has committed to play for San Diego State next
year as a member of the Aztecs. She is the first Griffin
soccer player to move on to SDSU. Last year the Aztecs were
6-11-3. Aguillon finished her Grossmont career with 24 goals
(#4), 22 assists (#5) for 70 points (#4 on the all time
Grossmont list). In 2005 she led the team in assists and was
in the top ten in the state, in 2006 she led the team in
goals with 19. "Adri has been one of the most exciting
players for us in years. She is so skilled and plays with
such flair." says coach Howard Hawver. Aguillon was a team
captain and an all-PCC selection in 2005 & 2006.
Both players were very instrumental in Grossmont's last
two conference championships. They will both likely make
immediate impacts at their new schools. More to follow, stay
tuned. |

Aguillon, Parada to represent Grossmont in Sophomore
Bowl
(12/5) Lady Griffins soccer players Adriana Aguillon and
Eliana Parada will be the first to represent Grossmont in
the Sophomore bowl at the state final four sport festival in
Fresno. The game is a showcase for sophomore players
statewide that have earned at least an all-conference
selection. Aguillon was Grossmont's leading goalscorer with
19 goals and is a two-time All-PCC selection. Parada was
second on the team in scoring with 15 goals but led the team
in assists with 11 and also a PCC selection this year. |
An
Amazing Season for Griffins Soccer - Recap
The 2006 Griffins soccer season will go down as one of
the best in the programs history. There were many
accomplishments that were achieved during this fall. But it
may the one that happened during the summer that was the
most important. It was in the summer soccer class that this
group of young ladies met and began to fuse as a truly close
and committed team. The result of that was a fifth PCC
Championship (back to back for the second time), a second
consecutive trip to the regional semi finals and more wins
than any other Grossmont team. This team broke school
records for overall wins (21), consecutive wins (12),
consecutive PCC wins (19) and an unbeaten streak of 18
games. They boasted an overall record of 21-2-1 while
scoring 80 goals an allowing only 12 in 24 games. Their
record over the past two years is an impressive 45-6-1
overall and 26-2-0 in the PCC. They finished third at the
"Duel in the Desert" tournament with a 3-0-0 record. Three
players, Adriana Aguillon, Eliana Parada and Jessica
Hattersley, were honored with "Athlete of the Week" honors
by the PCC, (more than any other team). Six players were
selected for the All-PCC team, Aguillon, Nicole Borowinski,
Brittany Ester, Hattersley, Lauren Lowrey and Parada.
Currently six of the teams sophomores are being recruited by
four-year universities...more to follow on that. While it
may seem that this team was one of the most competitive, it
was actually the fact that they committed to each other and
the idea of having fun becoming a "team" that was the key to
their success. Congratulations to team and staff in a truly
amazing season!

Ester posted a 0.536 goals against average and was in the
top ten of the state for the second straight year.
Borowinski, Hattersley and Lowrey played primarily as
defenders which was the strength of this year's team
allowing only 12 goals in 24 games. Aguillon and Parada led
the team in scoring with 19 goals and 15 goals respectively.
Aguillon and Parada will represent Grossmont in the
Sophomore Bowl to be held in Fresno during the final four

Successful Soccer Season comes to an End at Cerritos
(11/21) If it is not already known, soccer is alive and
well at Grossmont. The women's soccer season came to an end
on Tuesday at Cerritos but it certainly didn't go down
without a fight.
The game began as the Griffins last playoff game did with
both teams trading goals in the first 15 minutes.
Brittany Neill scored off of a
cross by Rhonda Swan who later
left the game with a knee injury. Midway through the second
half the Griffins fell behind 3-1 before
Nicole Borowinski headed
home her tenth goal of the season.
Down a goal in the final minutes Borowinski got her head
on another Neill cross that nearly tied the game if not for
a big save by the Falcon goalkeeper. A very talented team,
Cerritos will move on to face Santiago Canyon in the
regional final. Grossmont finishes with their fifth PCC
championship, 11th playoff appearance and an overall season
record of 21-2-1, not to mention a tremendous amount of
pride in a truly outstanding season. |
Lady Griffins to travel to Cerritos for Regional Semi

Griffins again enjoy playoff success at their "second
home"
Photo Gallery (11/19) For the second year in a row the Grossmont
women's soccer team put on a dominating performance in the
first round of the regional playoffs at their "second home."
Due to a conflict with the football team also earning a home
game, the Griffins played at the Sports Deck at SDSU where
they have been quite successful. Last year Grossmont earned
a trip to the second round with a 5-0 win over Ventura. This
year they will be moving on after an inspiring 4-1 win over
visiting Mt. SAC.
Both teams traded goals in the first 8 minutes with
Eliana Parada hitting the net
in the fourth minute. Just before halftime
Dena Richardson scored
from a corner kick to put the "home" team on top 2-1. In the
second half the turning point of the game came when
goalkeeper Jennifer Armer made
a spectacular diving save on a Mt. SAC header. After that
Parada scored her second goal of the game and
Adriana Aguillon put the
exclamation point on a great effort by the Griffins with a
goal.
Grossmont will now travel to Cerritos on Tuesday to play the
Falcons. The two teams have faced each other only once, back
in 1995. Cerritos, the champions of the South Coast
Conference will oppose the PCC champs, stay tuned for game
time. |
Griffins to face Mt. SAC on Saturday at SDSU
(11/15) Grossmont (19-1-2) has secured the #6 seed in the
Southern California Regional playoffs. They will host #11
Mt. SAC (16-6-1) at the
Sports Deck at SDSU @ 1:00 pm. The
Griffins visited Mt. SAC earlier in the year with the result
being a 1-1 draw. Mt. SAC finished third in the South Coast
Conference.
The Sports Deck is located on 55th street between
Montezuma Rd. and Hardy Ave.
Google Map

(11/10) With their win over Cuyamaca on Friday, Grossmont
College has captured back-to-back Pacific Coast Conference
Championships. The Griffins last accomplished that feat in
the 1998-99 seasons.
The championship comes amidst a wildly successful season
for coach Howard Hawver whose Griffins have lost just one
contest all season. The Griffins can expect to host a
playoff game next Saturday (11/18) against an opponent to be
determined. Because the Grossmont football team will also be
hosting a first-round playoff game on the same day the site
of the soccer game is yet to be determined, so please check
back for more details.
Grossmont had an identical situation last season, and the
soccer game was played on the Aztrack at San Diego State, a
venue that is being considered again. |

Tennille Rust and
Adriana Aguillon each scored
2 goals.
Jessica Hattersley and
Jackie Mezzakappa scored a
goal each. It was Hattersley's first goal of the year.

Griffins get right back on winning track at Southwestern
(11/3) The Grossmont soccer team bounced back immediately
after their only loss of the season with a well earned 3-0
win at Southwestern. Dena Richardson led the scoring with
two very strong goals and Adriana Aguillon added one to her
team leading total. Goalkeeper Jennifer Armer needed to come
up big on a one on one which she did to preserve the shut
out. Grossmont will host IVC on Tuesday at 1:00 which is a
change from the original schedule. |

Griffins suffer first defeat of the year
(11/2) After nineteen games this year, the Griffins
soccer team finally suffered their first loss of the season.
Mesa College scored their first goal off a deflection late
in the first half, and the second came late in the game when
Grossmont pushed players forward to try to tie the game.
Despite the loss, Grossmont still sits on top of the PCC
standings and can finish there by winning their remaining 3
games.
Record Setters Prior to this loss, Grossmont had won 19 straight PCC games
setting a school record. They also broke school records for
longest overall win streak (12) and longest overall unbeaten
streak (18).

Griffins face tough goalkeeper at City
(10/27) The goalkeeper for San Diego City, Lisa Arreola,
found herself in the right place at the right time for most
of the afternoon against the Griffins. Only
Eliana Parada,
Kristin Gunion and
Briana Apparito were able to
get the ball past her as the Griffins earned a 3-0 win.
Arreola was credited with 25 saves of the Griffins shots in
the game. Jennifer Armer
recorded the shutout for Grossmont. The Griffins will next
face SD Mesa at the Olympians field for the rematch of the
1-0 Grossmont win here earlier in the season. |

Tennille Rust assisted the goal.
Later in the game Adriana
Aguillon followed with a 20 yard blast for her 14th goal

Photo Gallery
(10/21) The Griffins soccer team finished a strong week
with two shutout wins. On Friday they defeated visiting Mira
Costa 4-0. Jennifer Armer recorded the shutout with two
saves. Another balanced scoring effort was evidence of
unselfish play by the Grossmont attackers. Elizabeth Walker
notched her first goal of the year with Dena Richardson,
Adriana Aguillon and Nicole Barowinski adding goals. Eliana
Parada set up two goals while Aguillon, Richardson and
Barowinski also added assists. |

into the game late in the first half, when Brittany Ester
was shaken on a play, and recorded 1 save to preserve the
shutout. Grossmont will start the second half of play on
Friday against Mira Costa at Grossmont. |
Balanced Scoring, Unselfish play key win at IVC
(10/14) Seven different players scored goals in the
Griffins 9-0 win at Imperial Valley.
Tennille Rust and Eliana
Parada led the way with two goals each. Other scorers
include Brittany Neill,
Briana Apparito,
Dena Richardson,
Evie Cortez and
Adriana Aguillon. It was
Cortez' first goal of the year. Rust's two goals cap a 5
goal week for her adding to her 3 goal performance against
Southwestern. Brittany Ester
recorded her eighth shutout of the year. |
Rust leads Griffins to win, sole possession of first
place
(10/12) Freshman Tennille Rust
scored three goals to lead the Griffins to a 5-1 victory
over visiting Southwestern. It was the first hat trick of
her college career. Other goal scorers include
Nicole Barowinski and
Eliana Parada.
Brittany Neill recorded two
assists. The win combined with a Cuyamaca loss moved the
Griffins into sole possession of first place in the PCC.
Grossmont will face Cuyamaca at home on Wednesday 10/18 at
1:00. |
Griffins remain undefeated and on top of PCC with win
over Mesa
(10/7) The Grossmont women's soccer keeps finding ways to
win. This was another exciting 1-0 win over rival San Diego
Mesa on Friday 10/6. Rhonda Swan (Serra) scored on a first
half blast to give the hosts all they would need to take
care of visiting Mesa. The defensive core of Jessica
Hattersley, Nicole Barowinski, Lauren Lowrey, Evie Cortez
and goalkeeper Brittany Ester worked hard to preserve the
shutout. The win makes Grossmont one of only three teams in
Southern California that remain undefeated and one of only 5
in the entire state. The Griffins take on Southwestern at
home on Wednesday 10/11. |
Griffins enjoy return home with romp over SD City
(10/5) The Lady Griffins soccer team showed that they

of eight-straight road games that saw the team go undefeated
(6-0-2) through those eight games. They capped it off with a
3-2 victory at Palomar college. Sophomores

Eliana Parada led the way with
a goal and an assist each. Freshman

team finds themselves with an overall record of 8-0-2 and
2-0-0 in the PCC. They now return home for the next three
games against SD City on Wednesday, SD Mesa on Friday then
Southwestern on 10/11. |
Griffins win PCC opener on the road
(9/29) Though there were many chances to score, a header
goal by Adriana Aguillon
held up as the game winner for the Griffins. Grossmont beat
Mira Costa by a score of 1-0. It was their 7th straight road
game with one more still coming at Palomar on 9/29.
Goalkeeper Brittany Ester
recorded her fifth shutout with one save. She is currently

second half the Griffins settled in and played a more
composed game before Briana Apparito put Grossmont ahead
with her second goal of the year. The Mounties came back and
got the equalizer in injury time to salvage a tie. |
