Patty Medina
Assistant Coach

Patty Medina started as an assistant coach with Grossmont College in the spring of 2012.

Medina is excited to return home to Grossmont where she was a student from 2004-2005.
“I am extremely flattered for the opportunity to coach at Grossmont,” said Medina upon accepting the position in May 2012.

“I am excited because of coach Caires’ reputation, and the power program she has built at Grossmont.”
“The reason I wanted to become a coach was the experience I had watching coach Caires on the court while my friends played at Grossmont,” Medina said.

Medina was previously an assistant at San Diego Mesa College from 2011-2012.

At Mesa Medina was responsible for coordinating recruiting, travel and fund raising. In addition, Medina also planned preseason and in-season conditioning. She also assisted with academic advising and player development.

Grossmont is the third stop for Medina who was a volunteer assistant at Southwestern Community College in the 2010-2011 season. The Jaguars earned their first Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Title in over a decade during that season.

Before entering into the community college ranks, Medina spent six years as an Assistant Varsity Coach and Head Junior Varsity Coach at Sweetwater High School.   During Medina’s tenure, Sweetwater earned its first League Championship in 15 years while hosting their first C.I.F. playoff home game in the 35-year history of the school.

Medina played at Chula Vista High School, graduating in 2003. She went on to play at Dominican University for one season before returning to San Diego in 2004 to begin her coaching career.

Medina still finds time to play in adult recreational basketball leagues around the city in her free time.

Coach Medina earned her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology in 2009 from San Diego State University. Medina will earn her Master's Degree in Education from National University in the summer of 2012.

Medina is single and lives in San Diego with her son, Jahlani.
