Griffins close out 2007 with playoff win, loss

2007 Stats

(11/11) Eighth-seeded Grossmont hosted #9 Chaffey at the Kroc Center in the first round of the SoCal Playoffs on Wednesday November 7th, notching a 13-7 win. Kevin Schimpf had 5 goals to lead the Griffins.

On Friday (11/9) the Griffins played the #1 seed, Golden West, who were undefeated this year and lost 16-8. Goalie, Chad Evenrud, had 14 saves; including a penalty shot block. From the field Schimpf had 2 goals, Parker 2, Kavcic 2, and Harvey 2.

Notables

Chad Evenrud's 318 saves in 2007 were good for 7th in Grossmont history for a single season.
Kevin Schimpf's 98 goals were 9th all time, and Paul Harvey's 83 steals were 18th.


Men clinch another title

(11/4)  The Grossmont College men's water polo team won the PCC Championship for the 8th year in a row this weekend.

The championship game vs Palomar was an exciting affair with the Griffins triumphing 11-9. The Comets came within one goal twice during the 4th quarter, but Kevin Schimpf scored two in a row (last one at 1:25 left) to seal the deal for the 11-9 victory. Paul Harvey had 2 goals and 5 steals, Kevin Schimpf had 6 goals, and the goalie, Chad Evenrud had an amazing 16 saves.

In the Griffin's 20-6 victory over Mesa 20-6 Paul Harvey scored 5 goals and Kevin Schimpf had 4.

Grossmont is now 20 - 10 and a perfect 8-0 in conference.

The Griffins will host Chaffey at the Joan Kroc Pool on Wednesday (11/7) for the first round of the So Cal Regionals.
