Coach Doug Weber noted the victory as "A great team team effort, as we had three starters miss time during the week with flu symptoms. Our reserves did a great job holding a lead going in to halftime."
Weber noted that reserves Ryan McNichols, Buai Tut, Daren Hawkins (right) and Seth Kluver all made big baskets and grabbed crucial rebounds to stop any momentum by the Olympians to hold on for the victory. Point guard Keith Tunrer was singled out for his ability to control the ball and prevent turnovers during the second half as well. Read More

EL CAJON (1-27-08) -- On a night when the standout shooters from
both teams found defenders in their face in the second half,
Grossmont College forward TYRONE PAIGE (right) was one of the few to
fill in the voids, leading to a Griffins victory.
Paige scored nine of his 15 points in the second half to expand a
1-point halftme lead, while guard KEVIN WOODRUFF collected a
team-high 22 points, leading Grossmont past visiting Miramar, 80-71.
The victory snapped the incredible 5-way logjam for second place in
the Pacific Coast Conference, leaving the Griffins and MiraCosta as
the leaders of the pack behind Imperial Valley, the runaway PCC
leaders.
Grossmont's three top shooters combined to hit just 7-of-28 shots
from the floor, while forward EMERY MITCHELL didn't release a single
field goal attempt in the first half. Still, the Griffins held a
33-32 halftime lead.

EL CAJON (1-13-08) -- Facing several physical mismatches, Grossmont
College did everything it needed to accomplish defensively to stay
in contact with Pacific Coast Conference-leading Imperial Valley
College.
The Griffins forced 25 turnovers and kept Arabs shooters off-balance
all night, including IVC scoring leader Brandon Dowdy, who only
scored 14 points on 5-for-15 accuracy from the floor.
However, the deeper Imperial Valley bench kept the team's lead
between 8-to-12 points throughout most of the contest in handing the
Griffins a 59-50 setback.
