Helping
student/athletes become better players and better people then
ultimately move on to four year institutions to continue their playing
careers and realize their dreams is a big reason why Doug Weber
coaches.
A Pacific Coast Championship and Coach of the Year
honors are nice rewards for the hard work, but sending players on is
much more rewarding, and that number continues to grow each year.
The total number of Griffins moving on during Coach Weber's tenure at
Grossmont College is 27 in eight years. This is a trend that
started during the seven years Weber was an assistant to Norm Parrish
at Salt Lake Community College where all 44 sophomores received
scholarship offers. The Bruins had seven players earn Academic
All-American honors and two players earn NJCAA All-American honors.
Prior to SLCC, while
earning his Masters Degree, Weber was an assistant at Cal Poly San
Luis Obispo. During those four years, the Mustangs has several
all-conference players and one All-American. Weber started his
coaching career during his seanior year at UC Santa Barbara. At
San Marcos High School, Coach Weber joined coaches Tony Vigna and
current Santa Barbara High coach Jeff Lavender. Over 60 players
have received scholarship offers as a result of playing for these
coaches. Fourteen of those players have continued their playing
careers professionally in the NBA, CBA, or overseas.
Originally from Kansas
City, Missouri, Doug and his wife Deanna, a Patrick Henry alum have
two daughters Alyssa and Lauren. In the families free time they
enjoy camping, golfing, and going to the beach for a little rest and
relaxation. |
