We
have two college level ROP courses; Emergency Dispatching and a
Security Academy. These courses can help prepare students for work
as dispatchers in fire and police agencies or as security officers
while working as a security professional.
The Dispatch course is also P.O.S.T approved as meeting the basic
Dispatcher training for law enforcement agencies. It also
includes a Computer Aided Dispatch component using state of the art
computer technology. In addition, students participate in
"on-the-job" experience by working side by side with local police
and fire dispatchers. NOTE: Students must also meet POST
requirements for employment as Dispatchers!! Background checks
ARE done for the "Ride along" components, where they work with local
dispatchers. Those with Felony convictions and other
disqualifiers may not be eligible to participate in the program!
The
Security Academy is 8 weeks long and is designed to give students a
variety of information that will assist them in getting hired as
security officers. The courses will meet the training requirements
for Firearms, First Aid/CPR, Baton, and Tear Gas requirements for
California Security Officers.
To enroll in these courses, call the Grossmont College ROP office
