I am honored to welcome you to Grossmont College for the Spring
2013 semester. Grossmont is one of 112 community college
campuses in California, which collectively enroll 25 percent of all
community college students in the nation. We serve a diverse
population and a wide variety of students who are seeking to update
their skills, transfer to a four-year college or earn an Associate’s
Degree.
A community college education is one of the surest ways to increase
your earning power. Did you know that those of you who graduate
with an A.A. or an A.S. degree can earn $1 million more during your
lifetime than your peers who don’t have a degree? Two-thirds of
California State University graduates began their college education at
a community college campus. Let that be a great motivation for your
continued success at Grossmont.
We continue to celebrate our good news regarding the passage in
November of Proposition 30, which raised the sales and income tax
in California to provide money for education, and of Proposition V,
the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District's $398 million
bond measure. Both successes affirmed that voters statewide and
in the East County support us and support you in pursuing your
educational goals.
Because of the passage of Prop. 30, Grossmont College was able to
restore 182 course sections that we otherwise would have had to
eliminate. Our campus was greatly enhanced with the opening of the
Student and Administrative Services building and the Griffin Center
last year. Prop. V allows us to update our Facilities Master Plan to
determine the best locations for additional classrooms and programs.
As always, our faculty and staff remain dedicated to you and to
making your experience here the best possible. Wear your Griffin
green proudly!
