It is my honor to welcome you to Grossmont College for the
Spring 2012 semester. It is currently a
very exciting time on our campus. Not only are we in the midst
of celebrating our 50th anniversary
throughout the school year, but also we are enjoying the opening
of the Student and Administrative
Services building and the Griffin Center, the college’s new
Student Center. These two new buildings
were constructed with funding from the Proposition R bond
measure approved by East County voters. Our hope is that these
facilities will enhance your educational experience and
encourage your
greater participation in student life activities. I encourage
you to take part in our college’s rich blend of clubs, sports
and cultural events.
While I am thrilled that major construction work during the past
two years is finally over, unfortunately, the state budget
crisis continues. As a result, like other higher learning
institutions, we have been forced again to reduce the number of
class sections offered this semester. I share your frustration
when the class you want may not be offered at a particular time
that fits within your schedule.
Regardless, our faculty and staff remain dedicated to do
whatever we can to help you achieve your dreams for academic
success.
Therefore, let me encourage you to persevere in achieving your
academic goals. Dedicate yourself to academic excellence,
despite any delays and obstacles resulting from budget
constrictions. Also, plan ahead and give yourself options. Thank
you again for choosing Grossmont, and I am confident that you
will have a great semester.
