Transfer Center

Description

The transfer process depends heavily on access to information on the Web. Therefore, it is essential that the Transfer Center provides PC work stations for students to research this information. There are currently three stations; one more is needed.
 
To an ever-increasing degree, transfer information and related documents (e.g. catalog descriptions, admission applications) are retrieved over the Web. Larger monitors are needed by the students to view this information.
 
The Center also relies upon the document-imaging system to review transcripts. This system works well.
 
The major challenge of the next few years will be the implementation of the new student record system. This will require a complete evaluation of our business processes, a significant staff training and development effort, and a review of our hardware needs.
 
The Transfer Center also relies heavily upon its own Web site to publish information for staff, faculty, and students. This site is reviewed periodically for any needed functionality.

Student Services Impact

Student access to information is essential to transfer success. Information has to be accurate, current, and easily available. Staff, faculty, and students must know where to find transfer Web pages and how to navigate to critical information. Furthermore, easy access to transfer Web pages encourages students to explore transfer options, an important strategy when universities are becoming increasingly more impacted.

Support Impact

The Transfer Center will continue to rely upon Information Services for technical support.
 
Regular maintenance of the Web pages can be handled within the division. However, any future expansion of the Web pages may require technical assistance.
 
The new student record system will require a huge amount of training and support from Information Systems. This is in addition to their support of existing hardware and software used by the department.

Year 1 (2007-2008)

 Objective

Maintain up-to-date technology that meets District Information Systems standards.
 
Utilize software and hardware that promotes student success and access.
 
Implement the new student record system.
 
Evaluate the need for Web-based services and develop new Web pages to address these needs.

 Action to Meet Objective

Participate in the Student Services PC replacement plan.
 
Ensure that necessary software supported and funded by Information Systems is included in the District’s Information Technology Plan.
 
Identify and obtain program-specific software funded by the college.
 
Participate in task forces, committees, staff development sessions, and other activities that support the implementation of the new student record system.
 
Obtain 19” flat panel monitors for students.
 
Add one new student workstation.

Year 2 (2008-2009)

Same as prior year, with modifications made as needed depending on progress in completing the 2007/08 objectives.
