Grossmont College Technology Plan 2007-2010.

Technology

Foreign Language Department

Description

Provide faculty and the Foreign Language Department office with computers that are commensurate with current technological demands. The Foreign Language Department office needs one, new high-end computer. A high-end computer will improve overall efficiency of the Foreign Language Department office. In addition, it is necessary to determine faculty computer and printer needs and to provide needed equipment for 8 full-time faculty members (specific type of equipment to be determined by faculty need and ICC guidelines). Also, equip all foreign language classrooms with updated SmartCarts, data projectors and document cameras. In addition, the FL Department is also in need of one lap top computer.

Curriculum Impact

Faculty members in the FL Department can improve curriculum quality and effectiveness when the technology at their disposal is commensurate with current technological demands. Improved technology supports curriculum design and implementation, class preparation and teaching. Updated computer technology provides faculty with tools to generate instructional material and high-tech multimedia presentations; furthermore, it provides faculty with the vehicles to develop collaborative learning packages and increases the overall work efficiency of the Foreign Language Department office.

Approximate Number of Students Served

Currently the FL Department serves approximately 1800 students. Demand is still highest in Spanish; however, with recent world developments related to traditionally non-impacted languages, such as Arabic, Mandarin Chinese and other Asian languages, the present and the foreseeable future see an increased demand for these languages.

Support Impact

None.
