Counseling

Description

Currently the Counseling department complies with District minimum standards for PCs. However, to improve our service to students, we will seek to improve the hardware used by the department. The document imaging system needs upgrades to expand the range of documents electronically available to staff and students.

The Counseling Web site is an important source of information for students. The “Web-counselor” service is an increasingly more popular means for students to exchange questions and answers with counselors.

The major challenge of the next few years will be the implementation of the new student record system. This will require a complete evaluation of our business processes, a significant staff training and development effort, and a review of our hardware needs.

Student Services Impact

Virtually every student appointment now requires retrieving information from the desktop PC. Efficient appointments require fast retrieval of information. Students, staff and faculty need to be trained on where to find and how to access important information on the Web.

Approximate Number of Students Served

Counseling potentially serves the entire student body of the campus.

Support Impact

The new student record system will require a significant amount of training and support from Information Systems. This is in addition to their support of existing hardware and software used by the department.
