Description
Multimedia is currently offering courses in several different buildings and
across two divisions. New computers and software will need to be identified and
purchased to equip the Multimedia Lab in the new Digital Arts building when it
is completed.
Curriculum Impact
Computer hardware and software will be needed to implement new courses as they
are approved. The new Digital Arts building will allow the development of new
curriculum strands in Digital Multimedia.
Approximate Number of Students Served
Approximately 200 students are currently enrolled in courses within the
Multimedia Program. This includes courses in Music, Media Communication, Art and
CSIS.

Some level of support will be needed for the new Digital Arts building.
Year 1 (2004-2005)
Objective

Purchase and install:
One (1) Macintosh Server - G-5 with server software to facilitate 35 + stations
Note: The cost of Airport Extreme and the individual internal devices for each
computer is considerably cheaper and can be secured and reconfigured on an as
needed basis.
One (1) Macintosh Powerbook G5 17” SuperDrive 1.33GHz, 1 GB DDR333 SDRAM, 80GB
Ultra ATA/100 hard drive, ATI mobility Radeon 9600 (64 MB DDR) for use as the
Teacher’s Station and for its portability to individual student’s desks for
demo.
Thirty (30) Power Mac G5 Dual 2GHz SuperDrive, 1 GB DDR400 SDRAM, 160 GB Serial
ATA hard drive, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, Mac OS X.
Thirty (30) 20” Apple Cinema Display flat display monitor.
31 versions (or site licenses) of Director, Flash, Fireworks, Logic, Peak,
DVD Pro II.
Upgrades for 35 sites - Adobe Creative Suite which includes latest version
Photoshop.
Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED ( 35 mm film/4000 optical dpi /16 bit).
Epson Scanner 1600 Pro series - flatbed reflective and large film format - 48
bit.
Three (3) Video Projectors - EIKI and projection screen for use with Powerbook
presentations.
Technical and Personnel Assistance will be required on site in the new Digital
Arts Building not only for Photography’s 30 station Mac Lab, but for the 30
station lab in Digital Media, the 30 station lab in Digital Multimedia as well
as units in use by Media Comm. The hiring of a full-time Technician to be on the
premises for immediate assistance is mandatory for the success of all programs
and daily operations within the new Digital Arts Building.
