Math Study Center

Description
In the Math Study Center, students work on computer-assisted tutorials, on-line tests and practice tests as well as computer simulations. In addition, students receive math tutoring when they have difficulties with the math concepts that are presented to them on the screen or in the math classes or in homework assignments. The computers in the MSC were upgraded 2003-2004. Kathleen Flynn is the full-time MSC specialist. There is an On-Line tutor-training course that was established in 2001-2002. The greatest need for the Math Study Center is an adequate budget the tutors so we can serve the students.
Software for the MSC needs to be updated on a regular basis. The MSC also needs a photo copier, a digital camera, and a new scanner.

Curriculum Impact
Unless there are an adequate number of well-trained tutors on duty in the MSC, students will be frustrated and leave the MSC without receiving the help that they need to be successful in their math courses.
Faculty (especially adjunct faculty) use the Math Study Center faculty computer and technology to create materials for their courses.
Software needs to be up to dated annually as new versions are published.

Approximate Number of Students Served
About 1500 students per semester use the Math Study Center.

Support Impact
The MSC needs an adequate number of tutors to help the math students who utilize the center.
