Introduction
Grossmont’s Instructional Computing Technology Plan was first developed in 1994 by a group of interested faculty. The following year, a three-year plan (1995-1998) was developed with input from all departments and the Instructional Computing Committee. Rapid changes in technology made it difficult to predict long-term technology needs of the campus; hence, yearly updates were done in 1997 and 1998.
Though instructional needs were addressed in a technology plan, administrative and non-instructional staff member’s needs were addressed individually and on an “as needed” basis. Administrative and non-instructional staff was provided with computers through their individual area supervisors with no comprehensive plan for replacement. The first attempt to develop a comprehensive expenditure plan for administrative computers occurred in 1997. The Administrative Computing Committee was formed and its members interviewed key individuals within each administrative area, which resulted in the replacement and upgrade of equipment according to area function and need. Still, no formal plan for replacement over a long-term period was developed.
In 1999, under the direction of the President, a three-year plan for each of the administrative areas including Administration, Business Office Operations, and Student Services has been developed and is incorporated within a comprehensive Grossmont College Technology Plan. To further the effort to make this plan a truly comprehensive one, we have added Goal IV, “Providing and Maintaining Staff Access.”
The development of a two year plan for 2002-2004 will place the update of the plan within the cycle of other college planning documents. The Grossmont College Technology Plan continued to support the college’s strategic plan “to provide high quality instructional programs and appropriate technologies, support service, and staff to achieve educational goals”.
