2002-2004
Description
The Financial Aid Department is
heavily reliant on technology to meet the demands of our students, state and
federal agencies that are our partners and the institution. We will continue to
focus on using more technology to streamline our processes and meet the
continuing demands of our partners.
Curriculum Impact
Approximate Number of Students Served
Our department had 9,175
applications for 2001-02. We are going to surpass that for 2002-03. As of the
end of October, 2002, we had 8,944 applications for financial aid.
Support Impact
Both technical and personnel support will be required to
meet the demands in the future.
Year 1 (2002-2003)
Objective
- In order to provide the
most efficient and effective delivery of Student Financial Assistance (SFA)
programs, it is necessary to procure and maintain up-to-date technology that
meets District Information Systems and U.S. Department of Education minimum
standards (Dear Partner letter GEN-00-20).
- Utilize hardware and
software that facilitates the process of accurately administering financial
aid which, as a corollary, promotes student access and success.
Action to Meet Objective
- Continue to work with District Information Systems and SIGMA for the
improvement and/or implementation of the following financial aid specific
system features:
- Electronic loan
processing -
completed
- Web-based tracking
enhancements
- Electronic Cal-grant
processing
- Return of Title IV
processing
- Improved Menuing
system
- Email tracking
letters and award letter notification to students
- EFT financial aid
disbursements to student bank account – check scanner will be required to
capture bank numbers and routing numbers

2. Ensure that the above is included in the
District-Wide Information Technology Plan.
3. Continue to work with District Information
Systems and Student Services for the implementation of Document Imaging.
- Participate in the Student Services PC
replacement plan.
- Identify and obtain area-specific
software funded by the college.
- Continue to work with U.S. Department of
Education technical contractors (Title IV Wan/CPC) for the implementation and
use of non-district supported software (i.e. EdConnect, EdExpress, R2T4,
etc.).
Year 2 (2003-2004)
Objective
Same as prior year. The objectives are ongoing.
