Description

 

Room 523 needs new computers and upgraded monitors; rooms 523-524 need pull out keyboard trays.  ** Need to evaluate student usage in the evening in rooms 523-524.  Create hybrid “on-line” courses for many of our classes.  Continued development of BOT website and development of procedures for on-line testing and grade posting. Prepare to move to new Tech center in 2003.

Curriculum Impact

 

Students in our programs are preparing for careers as office support professionals.  They must master the current versions of software, hardware, and other technology to be prepared and succeed in the business environment.

The transition to Microsoft XP will impact the majority of our course content (new texts, syllabi), as will development of on-line components.

1300-1500 per semester.  (Flex lab and OPT programs grow every year)

 

Support Impact

 

* Teachers need to be trained in distance learning software and exposed to new course content developed each semester (new courses, new versions of software, etc.).  Experienced “distance learning” instructors needed, permanent lab aide needed.

Year 1 (2002-2003)

 

Objective

 

*** Transition to XP software.  Offer on-line “hybrid” courses in the flex lab, update BOT webpage so students can view grades, develop computerized testing in the lab, hire flex lab aides, hire adjunct faculty for flex lab and medical courses.

 

Action to Meet Objective

 

**** Offer faculty MOUS testing for staff development (as a way to learn and assess XP knowledge).  Identify instructor(s) to take the on-line training being offered at Grossmont.  Develop and offer “hybrid” on-line flex course, including lab component.  Offer students the option to view grades on-line (use WebCT, blackboard, or linked read-only file).  Actively recruit students as aides, use connections to find adjunct faculty.

 

**** Deleted “install XP software, select textbooks and develop new syllabi.  Added MOUS option for staff development since instructors want and need to know their expertise level with Office XP.
