In the inaugural event of the 2007 Literary Arts Festival, hip-hop poet, songwriter, and gay activist, Jeffa,
filled the Griffin Gate with spoken word performance. In the second half of the show, English instructor
Raul Sandelin's Avant-Bard Poeticians took the floor. Keyboardist Derek Shaw performed songs
inspired by James Joyce and other authors, and Kent Johnson lectured on the power of folk lyrics with
guitar performances.
