The first of three guest readers to be showcased in the Festival was poet Steve Kowit.  Kowit is a

veteran of the Literary Arts Festival--he conducted his popular poetry workshop on the Grossmont

campus in 1995.  This year, Kowit read work from several of his books, includingThe Dumbell Nebula

and Gods Of Rapture.  Kowit's dramatic reading style, and his blend of humor and political

outspokenness made for an exuberant atmosphere and undivided attention in the Griffin Gate.  After the

reading, Kowit warmly received a queue of patrons and autographed books.
