Submission Guidelines
We invite any current or former students of Grossmont or
Cuyamaca Colleges to submit manuscripts (MSS), artwork or
photography for consideration by the student editorial staff of
the ACORN REVIEW. All work is submitted and judged anonymously,
but, if accepted, the writer's or artist's byline will appear in
the magazine. If you are interested in submitting a short story,
play, work of creative nonfiction, novel excerpt, poetry,
artwork or photography - Here is how you go about it:
- Short stories, plays, works of creative nonfiction,
novel excerpts - maximum word length 3000 words. Only three
short stories, plays, works of creative nonfiction or novel
excerpts may be submitted by any one person per semester.
- Poetry - maximum length - 50 lines. Only 10 poems can be
submitted by one person per semester.
- Artwork and photography - Original Black and white line
drawings, charcoal drawings, photography and digital media
accepted; 10 submissions per student per semester.Artwork or
photography submissions in color will be considered for
front and back cover only.
All MSS must be typed, double spaced, on one side of the paper,
pages numbered. Include the word count except on poetry
submissions. Do not include your name on your MSS, but do put
the title on your work. Attach a 3x5 card to your MSS with your
name, title of your piece, the name of the English instructor
you're submitting through, your phone number, your address and
your email address, if available. If you are submitting a poem
titled "Haiku" or "Poem", or "Untitled", write the first line of
the poem on your card for identification purposes. Submit a hard
copy of your manuscript and IF POSSIBLE, SUBMIT A 3.5" INCH
COMPUTER DISC THE INCLUDES YOUR MANUSCRIPT FILE IN WORDPERFECT
OR MICROSOFT WORD. Submit your MSS, artwork or photography
through any English instructor or to Juliana
Cardenas,office511b.

We will send out acceptance/rejection notices through your
English instructor during the semester. You can also get
information regarding the editorial staff's decision by

The Acorn Review is published yearly during the fall
