How to Make Google your Default Search Engine from the IE Browser

See that "search" button on your web browser menu?

You can program it so that it goes straight to Google, rather than to the default, which is MSN search.  I like that idea because Google is one of the biggest, most powerful, most effective search engines - it's the one I use most often.

So how do you do that?

Enter www.google.com/google.reg in the address bar of Internet Explorer.  You will get a file download window.  Click "Open.  Click "Yes", the click "OK."  From that point on, when you click the search button on your IE browser, you will get the Google search box.

Internet Hoaxes

There are all kinds of Internet virus hoaxes and urban legends out there.  If you suspect that some information, or some e-mail you got, is a hoax, check out the following sites to find out:

You Can Access Your Grossmont E-Mail from Anywhere!

For anyone who doesn't know how to access their Grossmont e-mail from an Internet connection off-site:

1.  Enter the address:
http://mail.gcccd.net/exchange into the address box on your browser.  You should then see a box labeled log-on.

2.  Enter your name, firstname(dot)lastname for faculty, and firstname-space-lastname for administrative.

3.  In the pop-up box, for username enter ics-g/firstname.lastname for faculty, and admin\firstname(space)lastname for administrative users. (For instance, Pat Morrison's would be:
 admin\Pat Morrison.)
The password is the same one that you use to get into your mail/access your computer at Grossmont.

4.  Your MS Outlook In-box should then appear on the screen.

5.  A final note: Remember to log-off so that someone using the computer after you is not able to access your mail!

Hints, Tips, Tricks, etc.

Are you still entering your grades into a grade book by hand?  There's a better, easier way - an application called "MicroGrade" helps you put it all together automatically.  It's kind of like an easy spreadsheet.  To get it installed on your Grossmont or home computer, contact Hsiu-Chih Jennings at 619-644-7811.  For help on using the application, contact Pat Morrison at 619-644-7788.
